Do It Tonight: Battle of the Bands @ the Horn Gallery

April 11, 2012

It’s that time of year again, kids.  Kenyon musicians will gather once more within the Horn Gallery to take part in an epic battle for that most coveted of prizes: an opening slot for Big Boi at Sendoff, which is arguably the most important event that will occur in your life over the next 20 days.

The student artists showcasing their talents come from all genres and walks of life.  They also rep a strange and colorful variety of band or act names – so in the spirit of yesterday’s Honors Day ceremony, we’ve decided to shell out awards to a few standouts.

See you at the Horn at 8!

1. The S. Georgia Nugent Award: granted to the band or artist whose name typifies that ideal of pure, unadulterated classiness (and classical scholarship, of course. Salve, Doctor!) which we so admire in our dear college president. It is our honor to present this award to…French Club!

2. The Philander Chase Medal: awarded to a band or artist with a name that exemplifies that most sage utterance of our founding bishop: “well, this will do.”  And the award goes to…Ryan Mach’s Band.

3. The Paul Newman Award: bestowed upon the band or artist with the most shamelessly “Kenyon” name, in this case a default winner: Paul Newman.

4. The Paul Dougherty Award: granted to the band or artist whose name most inspires that time-honored question, “dude, what?”  We are honored to present this award to WaffleBox.

5. The James Plunkett Cup: awarded to a band or artist with a name so inspiring that it liberates humankind from its chains and vanquishes evil from the world.  Demons cower and angels weep to hear it spake — nay, entire armies locked in the deadlock of battle will throw down their arms and cease fighting to listen to its sweet music.  It is with great honor, then, and with enormous humility, that I present this award to a band of which I am most assuredly not a member: ConfidenceCoyote.

See you there!  Don’t forget to vote for your favorite band!!
