Kenyon How-To: Peirce on your Phone
For those who don’t know, our dining hall staff is kind enough to send out what they are serving via Twitter and Facebook, allowing us to see what Peirce is serving up before we walk into the Servery. This makes it easy to check out Peirce’s Twitter feed or Facebook page, but for even greater convenience, we at the Thrill will show you how to get notified on your phone every time Peirce sends out their menu. All it takes is a Twitter account and a cell phone. Check it out after the jump!
There are two ways this works. The first will send you a copy of Peirce’s menu via text messages.
Via Text Message:
Step 1: Create a Twitter account (or log into an existing one) and navigate to Account Settings.
Step 2: On the left-hand panel, click on “Mobile.”
Step 3: Add your cell phone number (there will be a verification process where they send a code to your phone that you enter on their website to make sure you entered the right number. Also, Twitter doesn’t charge you for texts, but be wary if you have a limited number of texts per month or if you pay per message; Peirce can end up sending 2 or 3 messages per meal.)
Step 4: Check the box next to “Tweets from people you’ve enabled for mobile notifications” (pictured).
Step 5: Navigate to Peirce’s twitter feed: @PeirceDining
Step 6: Click on the icon with the silhouette person, next to the “Follow” or “Following” button.
Step 7: Click on “Turn on mobile notifications” (pictured).
That’s it! Now you should be receiving texts from Twitter every time Peirce sends out their menu.
The second way is even easier to set up, but is only for people with Smartphones, and it will only notify you when you have a data connection or are on WiFi.
Via Twitter Notification:
Step 1: Open the Twitter app and navigate to @PeirceDining
Step 2: Tap on the icon with the silhouette person, on the left hand side above recent tweets (pictured).
Step 3: Tap on “Turn on Notifications” (pictured).
That’s all! You’ll now get a notification from Twitter every time Peirce sends out their menu.
