I believe going to the KAC can be more than just shaving your legs in the sink before going on the elliptical for 30 minutes and watching the swim team practice. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problems with this. I literally do this all the time. Nonetheless, I know in my heart that the KAC can be a blissful experience, a time for relaxation. A while back a few girlfriends and myself decided to make the most of a Friday afternoon by pampering ourselves with some Spa KAC and did a little research. Below you will find a guide to getting the most out of that airplane hanger at the bottom of the Hill.
Pre-KAC: Many health and sport experts recommend drinking plenty of water before engaging in physical activity. But why not turn that water into spa water! It’s refreshing and you’ll look super cool drinking it in Pierce or at the KAC.
Post Workout: The KAC offers a variety of options to make your experience even more enjoyable. If you have not tried the steam room or sauna in the locker rooms, I highly recommend them both. But do be careful if you have a heart condition.
Here are some testimonials from real Kenyon students on the sauna and steam room:
- “Is anyone else’s skin burning? Do I look red to you?… Oh God, My eyeballs! … Oh it’s fine.” — A sauna-lover
- “Bring some essential oils and drop a small amount under the spigot of the steam room. Lavender is my favorite. It’s like a dream made of heaven.” — Katie Gourely ’14
- “Am I supposed to be naked?” — concerned Spa KACer
After the sauna and especially the steam room you are going to want to shower. The KAC showers are unbelievable. Unless you live in one of the new mansions, these showers will eviscerate the ones in your dorm. Just remember to bring your usual shower stuff and especially your towel. But if you do forget, even though I reminded you, the paper towels in the bathroom will also do the job.
Cool Down: Once you have cleaned yourself up, why not head out to the KAC lobby? Cheer on a
complete stranger peer into a basketball game. Grab some sushi, drink a smoothie or just have a laugh with some friends under the beautiful rainbow lights.
I’ve heard numerous people complain about the lack of a student union at Kenyon. I think the KAC can fill that gap, if you want it to. It is truly a place where you can go with friends, meet new people, and not think about that mountain of schoolwork waiting to crush you.
Happy Spa KACing!
