Here at The Thrill, we recognize that our readers live busy lives. You may not have time to absorb every little bit of news that happens off of our lovely hill. As during last semester, The Monday Catch Up aims to bring you up to speed on the most important (interesting, funny and entertaining) news that you may have missed each week. This week’s catch up is a roundup of all that happened this summer.
2) We also dominated the Olympics, as usual. The second-place winner in the overall medal count, China, won 16 fewer medals with a population 4.3 times larger than ours. And they say Americans are out of shape.
3) Marvel’s The Avengers was the top-grossing movie of the summer. The Avengers has grossed nearly $618 million since its release on May 4.
4) In what was the deadliest mass shooting since the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School, James Holmes allegedly killed 12 and wounded 58 at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colo. Holmes was charged with 142 criminal counts on July 30.
5) Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney selected Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate for the upcoming election. Ryan is known for chairing Congress’s House Budget Committee and for being really into P90X.
