This post comes to us from Lili Martinez ’13, co-editor-in-chief of The Kenyon Collegian.
Sheriff David Shaffer released this statement today updating the community on the status of the Gap Trail arrest. He identifies the man who was arrested as Stephen S. Randrup of Mount Vernon. Notice how quick the response was — Hobbs said she noticed the man acting strangely around 2:40, and by 2:50 officers were dispatched.
Kokosing Gap Trail Arrest
On 5/6/13 at approximately 2:50 pm officers were dispatched to the Kokosing Gap Trail on a report of a male exposing himself. The incident was reported to have taken place west of Laymon Rd. near the 3 ½ mile marker. Patrol officers and detectives responded to the area and made contact with Stephen S. Randrup of Mount Vernon. Randrup was identified by witnesses and arrested for public indecency. The case remains under investigation and officers are asking anyone who may have recently observed similar activity to call the Knox County Sheriff’s Office at 740-397-3333.
Public case records show that Randrup had two priors — one for receiving stolen property in 2010 and one for telecommunications harassment in 2011. He has been arraigned on the charge of public indecency for yesterday’s incident.
Campus Safety released a statement a few hours ago reporting the arrest. According to Bob Hooper, Director of Campus Safety:
On May 6, 2013 a Kenyon student reported to Campus Safety seeing an individual matching the description of a male previously reported to have engaged in sexual misconduct (exposing himself and masturbating) while calling out to female students on the Kokosing Gap Trail.
Thanks to the quick response from the student as well as the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department, an arrest was made yesterday afternoon.
