Meet an SMA: Kelly Boland ’14

We’re picking back up on the feature wherein we spotlight an SMA each Friday to raise awareness about the resources available to victims of sexual assault. Remember, the SMAs are subordinate to the Counseling Center, so anything you tell them is kept confidential. They also have an anonymous hotline you can call if you need assistance: 740-358-1544. Stay safe this weekend, and know that there is always someone you can talk to if you need help.

Today, we’re featuring Kelly Boland, a senior from Missouri.

Cookie pie or giant cookie? Giant oatmeal raisin cookie.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had (excluding cookie pie and/or giant cookie)? I once tried making homemade pizza, but I accidentally used the biscuit recipe on the box instead of the pizza crust recipe. The pizza was huge, but delicious.

What’s the last good book you read? Spark by John P. Ratey- it’s about the neuroscience of running!

Why do you love your hometown?  The St. Louis Cardinals.

What is your favorite place to nap on campus? The benches outside of the market

What’s the best class you’ve taken at Kenyon? Abnormal Psychology with Professor Lopez.

Why did you become an SMA? When I studied abroad in Denmark, I traveled with my clinical psychology class to a variety of different mental health and wellness clinics.  The most prevalent theme from place to place was sexual misconduct.  I want to not only raise awareness about this topic, but also help to create an environment in which people can feel comfortable discussing sexual misconduct and sexual consent.
