Do it Tonight: Maysoon Zayid, “I am like Shakira meets Muhammad Ali”

This Friday Maysoon Zayid, a critically acclaimed comedian, artist and activist, will perform on campus. Maysoon is assumed to be one of the first Muslim female comedians to do stand-up in the United States and is the first person ever to do stand-up in Palestine and Jordan. Maysoon has been featured on TED Talks, the American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP) annual gala, and an episode of Countdown with Keith Olbermann amongst other things. Her career filmography includes roles in the Adam Sandler film You Don’t Mess with the Zohan,  The Muslims Are Coming, and The Cradle of Comedy.

Maysoon has cerebral palsy and her comedy addresses the intersectionality between race, ethnicity and physical disability. The Discrimination Advisors along with multiple academic departments and student organization are sponsoring Maysoon’s event. Having Maysoon on campus is a great opportunity to raise awareness about physical disability and to challenge stereotypes about disabled people, Muslims and Arabs.
