Peirce Date: Solange Knowles, Bunny Rabbits, and Geckos

Hey y’all, we are picking back up on one of exciting features, Peirce dates! For those of our readers who are unfamiliar with The Thrill’s dating service, a Peirce date it is a lovely thing where the yenta at The Thrill set two people up on a blind date at Peirce, and then we find out how it went. Hilarity ensues.

I arranged to meet our two lovely contestants at the upstairs couches in Peirce this past Monday evening. Madi Thompson ’16 arrived first, looking casual yet chic with just a hint of detectable nerves. We chatted about life, love, sex, rock and roll, and of course, bunny rabbits. Brett Miller ’15 then came dashing in with an excited energy that made us both smile. I quickly explained the basic rules to them and set them free in Peirce. I probably should have attempted to reserve them a table…it was rush hour after all. Luckily they found a table on the outside patio, which seems a much more romantic setting than new side. Let’s officially meet your two contestants.

Contestant #1, Madi Thompson:

  1. Major: Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience
  2. Hometown: St. Louis
  3. Five words to describe yourself: Dedicated, organized, feministy, energetic, and impatient
  4. Ideal date: making pancakes at night and eating them while watching Netflix.
  5. Your best pick-up line/ice breaker: I just got a bunny and he looks like a cow, wanna meet him?
  6. What did you hope Peirce would have served for your date: Anything that’s not too hard to eat, so you can really have a conversation.
  7. Best thing about Kenyon: Everyone has something they really love, and I learn so many interesting things just from talking to people!
  8. Worst thing about Kenyon: Winter
  9. In 20 years you are: Working in a hospital and living in a farm house with 10 adopted children, ideally. More realistically, I just hope I have a job.

Contestant #2, Brett Miller:

  1. Major: American Studies
  2. Hometown: New York, New York
  3. Five words to describe yourself: Solange Knowles
  4. Ideal date: An extreme trampoline dodgeball  tournament
  5. Your best pick-up line/ice breaker: How much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice.
  6. What did you hope Peirce would have served for your date: Everything Peirce does is magic.
  7. Best thing about Kenyon: The luxury of time.
  8. Worst thing about Kenyon: February.
  9. In 20 years you are: Hopefully employed.

Tell us a little bit about your date:

Madi: It was fun! I had met Brett before but didn’t really know her, so it was nice to get to know more about her. We talked about her comps which are super interesting and she’s very passionate about it, so I loved hearing about what she’s doing. I don’t know if there was a worst topic of conversation, but we talked about writing eulogies because she has to do that for her Meanings of Death class, which was a weird conversation topic, haha.

Brett: We had a good chat about classes. I found out that Crozier is getting a pet rabbit which is cool, though I’m definitely more of a gecko person myself. Overall it was a lovely albeit initially awkward way to make a new friend!
