For those of you who don’t know, Abdolkarim Soroush is a BIG FREAKING DEAL. In 2005, TIME Magazine called him one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and in 2008, Prospect Magazine named him one of the most influential intellectuals in the world. Why?

Soroush is one of the leading critics of the post-revolutionary government in Iran and one of the top proponents of the compatibility of democracy and Islam. He also happens to be a scholar of the poet Rumi, and is going to be talking at Common Hour today about that very topic.
