Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has recalled all of their products and closed their doors due to a possible listeria scare.
Jeni’s follows Blue Bell Ice Cream, which also recalled all of their products three days ago. Jeni’s explains:
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals infected by Listeria may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, infected pregnant women can suffer miscarriages or stillbirths.
The company discovered the contamination in a random sampling collected by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Consumers are urged to dispose of any recently purchased Jeni’s products–this includes those purchased at the KAC. For more information, you can read the company’s press release here.
