Every week, The Thrill features a member of a student-support organization to bring awareness about the various resources available to the student body on campus. This week, we’re featuring Sara Myers, ’15, of Bethesda, MD.
Remember, the SMAs are subordinate to the Counseling Center, so anything you tell them is kept confidential. They also have an anonymous hotline you can call if you need assistance: 740-358-1544. Stay safe this weekend, and know that there is always someone you can talk to if you need help.
Cookie pie or giant cookie?
Obviously giant cookie so soft and warm!!!
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had? The worst?
The best meal I have ever had was a 3 course sushi meal from Morimoto sushi. The worst meal I’ve had was mostly just sad, not gross- I was abroad in Copenhagen and the only food I had left in the fridge was a head of lettuce so I ate it for dinner. Sad, unsatisfying, and meager. :(
Which of your classes at Kenyon had the best reading list? What’s the best book you’ve ever had to read for class?
Science and Politics with Steve van Holde… it’s the most incredible class! It is a seminar where we talk about the intersection between policy, government, and science. The best book I’ve ever had to read for class is The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. It puts the fascinating subject of research and development of the atomic bomb into a historical and political context in a very cool way.
What’s the best thing about your hometown?
The food and the location! Bethesda is right outside of DC and has very very good food. It’s a super short walk from where I grew up to a metro stop, and then a short ride into DC WHERE THERE IS MORE FOOD!
Where’s your favorite napping spot on campus?
The chairs that are interspersed throughout the cubicle areas in the library. Whenever I’m working at a cubicle and get sleepy, I just move to a chair and nap for 30 minutes.
Which movie have you watched the most times?
Zoolander…I am so excited that they’re making a second one that’s coming out Feb 12, 2016!!!!!!!
Why did you become an SMA?
I feel strongly about issues of sexual assault on college campuses and while Kenyon is an amazing place, it is no exception to sexual assault. It’s scary to think that it happens here, but acknowledging it and developing a dialogue about it is so important. Spreading awareness of the issue and educating people on what sexual assault is and how to deal with it has been really rewarding and certainly a meaningful experience!
