The trial of Venezuelan opposition leader, former mayor of capital city Caracas’s Chacao Municipality and Kenyon Class of 1993 alum Leopoldo López ended unexpectedly on August 25th. According to Friends of a Free Venezuela, an organization started by Lopez’s friends and former classmates, the trial terminated without hearing the testimony of a variety of witnesses called by both the prosecution and the defense. Likewise, the trial ended without reviewing Lopez’s 2014 protest speeches, the content of which has been used to justify his imprisonment.
