The promise of Sendoff is one that’s been paraded around since your days of touring Kenyon as a prospie. It’s a last-hurrah before finals week, a day of fun in the sun (read: clouds) spent with your friends forgoing homework for a day. But nobody ever really mentions Extendoff. What is it, exactly?
Extendoff is the Saturday after the Sendoff concert. Instead of giving your body a much-needed rest after a day of debauchery, the campus collectively decides that the best fix for an alcohol-induced hangover is more alcohol.
Although Extendoff can be considered an event, it’s mostly a state of mind. It’s the spirit that inspires you to rally despite literally every part of your body telling you to spend the day in bed. It’s the 2 P.M. nap and the 4 P.M. resolution to keep going. It’s Philander Chase telling you that this is definitely what he envisioned when he founded our glorious institution.
Traditionally, this celebration has taken place on South Quad with the Beta’s Sax on the Beach party, complete with sand. For reasons nobody can really say, Sax has been cancelled this year, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. The official-ish list of things to do during Extendoff is as follows:
- South Quad water balloon fight hosted by the South CAs at 1:45 P.M.
- Spring Fest at the Horn Gallery from 1-4 P.M.
- Purple Rain, a film about Prince at the Gund Gallery Community Theater at 7 P.M.
- Safari Party at the Delt Lodge from 10 P.M. – 2 A.M.
