10 o’clock list: Holiday Favorites Set at Kenyon

It’s the most wonderful time of year, and I know that you’re rushing to your Netflix account to check out all of your favorite holiday* movies and to relive the pleasant memories of your youth. Yet, don’t you ever wonder why none of them were set here, in scenic Gambier, Ohio? Not that Liberal Arts isn’t a well-loved holiday favorite, but it seems so strange that our beautiful campus has had no jolly, seasonal feature films located amongst our studious selves. Well, I may not be able to afford a film crew, but here are a few holiday classics reconfigured to fit the Kenyon culture.

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life: After a run on the Registrar’s Office during Add/Drop, Phaedra Fawcett wishes she were never born. But thanks to Allison Janney, Angel 2nd Class, she’s able to see that Kenyon wouldn’t be the same without her, and comes back for second semester to find that the entire campus has come together to raise money to help reconfigure mybanner. We Are the 10 Lords-a-Leaping

lords_football_display_imageIt looks like there might be more than just ten lords-a-leaping.

Bleacher Report is a sports news website, one that I would be checking a lot more often if the NHL was actually having a season this year. I never really expected to see any Kenyon news there. The Lords aren’t listed under the College Football section. Santa at the Bookstore!

If you were one of those children (ahem) who never got to sit on Santa’s lap, here’s your chance. At 3:00 p.m. today, Santa will be in the bookstore. There will be probably be lots of little children there, but there is no shame in seizing your chance to take a photo with ol’ Saint Nick. If you go over right now, you can hear Christmas stories being read aloud.

Holiday Gift Guide: The Bookstore

The Thrill is excited to bring you a series of holiday gift guides for different stores around campus. Today, we feature some of the goodies for sale in the Kenyon Bookstore.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange; $5 each; table near the checkout counter — Available in dark, milk, and white, this orange-flavored chocolate in the shape of an orange is the perfect Christmas stocking stuffer. It’s the only candy I know of where you get to smack it on a table before you eat it (to separate the orange slices), so it’s great for relieving some excess end-of-semester stress.

The Peirce-mas Tree is Back!

Khristmas at Kenyon.

Just now, Maintenance workers were spotted stringing lights around the College Christmas tree outside Peirce. Soon it shall be lit, and it will be just like this, except without Neil Patrick Harris, or the Obamas, or anyone special, really.

A tree near Cromwell Cottage used to serve as the Christmas tree, but then it died. The spirit of Christmas, however, lives on.
