How to Pronounce: “Class of 2016”

These are someone’s CHILDREN!!!!!!!!! Probably. (via Wikia)

They told me when I was a freshman that the sophomore-senior relationship was something to look forward to.

I didn’t believe them. “But these juniors… they ain’t shit to me!”, I naively protested, internally, because that’s a rude thing to say out loud.

Alas… sweet, simple, lil’-ol’-dumb-ol’-stinky-ol’ me. Looking back now, a year later, it’s a cruel how wrong I have proven to be. I’m gonna miss so many of you so much – you guys are great! Heck, you guys are shit to me!

Therefore, it is with heavy heart and on bended knee that I offer this simple tribute to you, the graduating class of Kenyon College –  you, who have taught me so much, who have welcomed me into your homes and who have even, on occasion, into the NCA’s gazebo (but that was really just a one time thing, as you so explicitly stated. It’s cool! I understand. Everyday can’t be Underclassmen Gazebo Open-Season Day. That would be crazy. Right? That would be crazy, Cath).

So here it is, coming at you live from the deepest recesses of my soul/from inside my parked Ford Escape Hybrid with the windows fully rolled up. Warning: this one was incredibly hard to make, so it’s probably gonna be incredibly hard to listen to.

Kenyon Begins 189th Academic Year; Doesn’t Look a Day Over 175

BFFs President Nugent and Dean Toutain share a laugh as they head to Convocation. (Becca Hafter for The Thrill)

The class of 2016 was formally welcomed to Kenyon today during their convocation on Sam Mather lawn. For the most part, it was the same as that convocation a few years ago, when you sat there awkwardly trying to figure out what a provost was while worrying that your roommate secretly hated you. Below, however, are a few of this year’s highlights and photos:

Welcome, Class of 2016!

Hi there! Welcome to The Thrill. We know you’re busy right now with moving in, dealing with your anxious parents, and maybe even dealing with a little anxiety of your own, but allow us to introduce ourselves.

The Thrill serves as one of the primary online resources for the Kenyon community, and our goal is to produce content that informs and entertains all of campus. Our name and our motto (“it unifies, it never dies”) are both derived from Kenyon’s official Alma Mater, which you’ll learn to sing soon enough. We were founded in September 2011 as the blog division of Kenyon’s newspaper, The Kenyon Collegian, but The Thrill quickly developed a life of its own. Today, we cover just about everything: you’ll find breaking news updates, frivolous entertainments to distract you from studying and even original videos featuring the best of Kenyon’s music scene and some of our rockstar professors. We’d be remiss not to mention Kenyon’s other great publications, links to which can be found at the bottom of the right sidebar. (They’re kind of our frenemies.)
