Do it tonight: Dancing with the Kenyon Stars

So mostly, I think you all should go to this because the promo video is amazing. But also to help the homeless and see your peers show off their dancing skills. Dancing will commence on the Rosse hall stage starting at 8:30 p.m. tonight. In addition to professor-student dancing pairs, there will be several dances choreographed and performed by students from the Ballroom Dance Club and the Dance Team. In order to vote for that couple that just pulls at your heart strings Dirty Dancing style, you must get a ticket in Peirce. There is a suggested $2 donation, and all proceeds go to the Winter Sanctuary Homeless Shelter in Mount Vernon.

Do it tonight: Dancing With the Kenyon Stars (and Take Five Concert)

It’s fun. It’s quite possibly the classiest event of the semester. It’s free, but for $2 you can vote and also give to an important charity.

That’s right, it’s Dancing With the Kenyon Stars, back for a second year. You can even make it a double feature: this event directly follows the Take Five concert that starts in Rosse at 7:00 p.m.

  • What: Dancing With the Kenyon Stars, presented by the Ballroom Dance Club
  • Where: Rosse Hall
  • When: 8:30 p.m. tonight

Just Two Days Until Dancing With the Kenyon Stars

Following its successful inauguration last year, Dancing With the Kenyon Stars is returning this year to raise money for the poverty-fighting Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission. Admission is free, but donations to the charity of $2 or more will earn you the chance to vote for your favorite couple via paper ballot or text. The competition begins at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and is in Rosse Hall this year instead of the KAC, meaning those of us with AT&T will actually be able to vote by text this time. Check out the video above to learn about all the contestants, which include returning participants like President Nugent and newcomers including Provost Samhat.

Breaking: Snouffer and Talk Win “Dancing with the Kenyon Stars”

The winning couple. (Sam Colt for The Thrill)

Professor of Art Karen Snouffer and Ryan Talk ’12 won the Kenyon Ballroom Club’s “Dancing with the Kenyon Stars” competition just now. The couple danced the ChaCha to the song “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez. All of the couples received enthusiastic ovations from a packed audience in the KAC’s Tomsich Arena.

Do it tonight: Dancing with the Kenyon Stars

She'll be there (and this is how she'll look if she wins the trophy)...

Tonight, Kenyon’s Ballroom Dancing Club will transform the KAC’s Tomsich Arena into a ballroom (just like your gym at senior prom), and all of Kenyon’s hottest celebrities will converge to let their hair down and show off some classy moves.

...but sadly, Lady Gaga will not be there as a guest judge.

Besides the joys of watching Katherine Elkins tango and S. Georgia Nugent waltz (she’s surely good at it, since she’s so elegant and cosmopolitan), the money raised by ticket sales goes to a good cause: the Russian Orphan Opportunity Fund. Judges, including Associate Professor of Dance Balinda Craig-Quijada and sociology superstar Anna Sun, will be on hand to provide commentary and scores, but the winner will be determined by audience votes.

Plus, the whole show will be run by this classy fella!

Dancing with the Kenyon Stars, 8:00 p.m., Tomsich Arena (the KAC’s basketball court). Entry is free; voting tickets are $2 and are available at Peirce today and at the door tonight.
