Hi. You’ve probably gotten emails from me before. It comes as no surprise that once again I have lost my black north face w/ iphone and kcard in front pocket. The morning after every Ganter party, you get this email, and every Tuesday I end up buying a new kcard, as well as ordering a new north face. I have spent over $600 on kcards this year alone. As for the iPhone, they’re a dime a dozen. However, this iPhone (my third this year) had my social security number saved as a “Note,” under the heading “MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER” so you can understand why I’m starting to get nervous that this could fall into the wrong hands.

The Lead Story: The drone program, a defining feature of President Obama’s foreign policy approach, could face new difficulties taking on Al Qaeda and its affiliates if US troops are forced to withdraw from Afghanistan this year. Reports the New York Times:

If Mr. Obama ultimately withdrew all American troops from Afghanistan, the C.I.A.’s drone bases in the country would have to be closed, according to administration officials, because it could no longer be protected.

Good morning! Here’s what you missed over the weekend:

The Lead Story: A luxury mall in Nairobi, Kenya was the target of a terrorist attack on Saturday that has claimed the lives of 62 at last count. The attack appears to be the work of The Shabab, a Somalia based Al-Qaeda affiliate. Some of the attackers remain in the mall and are engaged in a standoff with Kenyan soldiers. Update: CNN is reporting heavy gunfire out of the Westgate mall as the military attempts to draw the three-day conflict to close. Few hostages remain.

It’s a dedicated reader indeed who voluntarily conducts a poll in Peirce during the chaos of prime dinner-rush hours.

Luckily for us, that’s exactly what Sarah Krumholz ’13, Lily Bullitt ’13 and Chloe Irwin ’13 did a few nights ago, and they were generous enough to pass their results on to The Thrill.

The three seniors’ survey was born out of a casual conversation about the abundance of iPhones at Kenyon, and, as they explained via email, “We wanted to put some numbers behind the discussion, so we asked everyone sitting in Old Side and New Side Peirce whether or not they had an iPhone.”

I bet you never thought you’d see Shep Smith in the Monday Catchup, did you?

Good morning! Here’s the news you may have missed:

The Lead Story: Be warned, this week’s lead story is an uncomfortable one. Fox News made headlines on Friday when it accidentally broadcast a suicide on live TV. Fox was airing an ostensibly benign car chase during Shepard Smith’s show, when the man being chased pulled his car over, got out and started running erratically. Smith saw the potential for hazard and urged the show’s producers to cut away from the chase, but not before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot himself. Smith issued a nearly two-minute apology after hastily cutting to a commercial break, but the incident has ignited a debate over whether or not car chases should be on live TV. The news website Buzzfeed has also come under fire for posting video of the suicide to YouTube. (A note: none of the links here include footage of the suicide.)
