Warning: the following is semi-educational and may trigger acute ornithophilia. Come to the dark side, my friends- we have little fuzzy dinosaurs. The author would also like to note that she is not liable for any injuries sustained from smacking your head into a tree because you were staring at a bird. Photos from the National Audubon Society.

Kenyon’s New Year’s Resolutions

David McCabe, Mara Pottersmith and David Hoyt contributed reporting for this post.

We’re now 72-ish hours into 2012, and you’ve hopefully settled on the resolutions you are going to keep and which ones you will break by the time spring semester starts.

And you are not alone! The Thrill got in touch with various administration luminaries to find out what they are resolved to do in the new year. We’re going to be updating as we get more in, since ’tis the season for out-of-office replies.

First up — President S. Georgia Nugent:

I’ve been a runner for 30 years, but I’d like to be better this year about getting out there every morning. And of course (isn’t it obvious?) I’d like to improve my dancing.

Chief Business Officer Mark Kohlman:

…my goal for 2012 is to focus my attention and energy on positive things and people.

Vice President of Library and Information Services Ron Griggs:

I resolve to think and plan further ahead on a regular basis.
I resolve to read more fiction outside my comfort zone.

Dean of Students Hank Toutain:

I suspect that my response to your question may disappoint … but here it is, developed in the context of years of dismal follow-through on prior-year resolutions: “To forever  stop making New Year’s resolutions!”

Associate Dean of Students Tacci Smith:

I want to make a commitment to get back to the gym — during the end of fall semester that dropped out of my schedule pretty easily, so working out 3-5 times a week is a definite.  Another resolution is to keep my desk clean — I filed a bunch of paper during break and you can actually see my desk, so I want to keep up on that better.  The last one I made was to have better work/home balance in my life and not be checking email until 10 pm at night.

What are your resolutions? Tell us in the comments.
