Hey, you! Yeah, you! Have you ever wanted to have #kandid pics of you and your pals featured on a Kenyon-themed news blog? Well, you’re in luck because The Thrill has just started a new segment called Kenyon Kandids! Each week, we’ll kollect a bunch of kandids, post them on our website, and share them with the kommunity! But here’s the katch: your photo will be accompanied by a group of generic, fake photos we pulled from various Kenyon Bookstore products. It’s up to the rest of the kampus to guess which photo is the real #KenyonKandid! Let’s see if YOU’RE up to the challenge!
Come on and admit it. It’s true.
You chose Kenyon for
John Green the stellar English program quaint-middle-of-nowhere-feel its Instagrammability.
So before you break out your smartphone and go crazy with the lo-fi/bokeh/purposeful-blur plays on MP, here’s some inspiration to get you going.
Chris McCann, a sophomore from New York, found his artistic passion when he came to Gambier. “I really like to take the unexpected and make it beautiful, and to have my pieces have something that’s a bit off about them” commented Chris as we flipped through the photos on his computer. “When I came to Kenyon I took a sculpture class, because I really like working with wood. And that first class catapulted me into taking more art classes, and then declaring an art major.” While he does have an actual sketchbook, Chris’s main mediums are photography and sculpture.

Over the course of her long career in academia, S. Georgia Nugent has had a lot of pictures taken of her. Most of them are pretty standard publicity shots (we still don’t know what she’s laughing at), but occasionally you come across something a little more interesting. Following in the footsteps of our colleagues at the Nuge’s alma mater, Princeton, here’s a collection of offbeat photos of our retiring president.
I’m back on the blog beat, but we’re marching to a new drummer. Having recently sold my soul, I am the proud owner of an iPhone 4 (Look, I’m the alpha female – I know Siri and I would just get in fights, anyway). Because of this recent technological leap (or setback, probably, since I used to have a Droid) I now have access to Instagram! Originally, I was against Instagram. I spent years studying photography, and now everyone can just pop some selective blur and a filter on their photos and hey wait okay this is kind of fun! Did you see how this looks with a border?? I have to post this and share it on my Twitter, too!
Even if you don’t have a smartphone, you can appreciate the iPhotography of your peers right here on the Thrill. Check ’em out after the jump.
