Welcome to In the Studio, a feature dedicated to exploring the fantastic independent musicians at Kenyon. This week, we showcase Annie Blackman, an English major, Thrill Grandma, and singer-songwriter from Montclair, NJ, who is known for artfully crafting melodies and lyrics that evoke a sense of forlornness. Ah yes, The Horn Gallery: home to packed concerts and student art exhibitions. We all know there are some wild things going down there on a fairly regular basis, and things can get pretty hot and heavy (in terms of crowding, of course). Come with us as we euphemistically explore the similarities between the euphoria of a great show and the euphoria of a great time in the sack.
If you’re involved in things that don’t consist mainly of sitting alone and writing things that will eventually get eviscerated by commentators, you may have already realized that several of the student organizations on campus have their own blogs. Using The Thrill as a rubric, three such blogs are described below.
Let’s level here: We here at The Thrill don’t always attend the events we feature on “Do it Tonight.” Shocking, I know. That doesn’t mean we don’t find them interesting, it’s just that it would be exhausting for us to attend every single one of them and there are not enough hours in the day. With that being said, I would be more than disappointed if I didn’t find the time to attend DJ Jonathan Toubin’s show at The Horn Gallery this evening.

It’s that time of year again, kids. Kenyon musicians will gather once more within the Horn Gallery to take part in an epic battle for that most coveted of prizes: an opening slot for Big Boi at Sendoff, which is arguably the most important event that will occur in your life over the next 20 days.
The student artists showcasing their talents come from all genres and walks of life. They also rep a strange and colorful variety of band or act names – so in the spirit of yesterday’s Honors Day ceremony, we’ve decided to shell out awards to a few standouts.
See you at the Horn at 8!
